Caesars Ghost by Eugie Foster was written to honor all the companion animals that gift us with their devotion, loyalty, and love. It is especially a tribute to Templar, one of the many ferrets who have shared their lives with me. I was devastated when he passed away until one night I woke from a dream so vivid, I could still feel the soft warmth of him snuggled under my chin. I was comforted, and started Caesar’s Ghost the next day.
Katchina by Michael Boatman. One night, while watching The Color Purple for the umpteenth time, I found myself wondering: What if Celie (Whoopie Goldberg) cut Misters (Danny Glover) throat instead of just shaving him after he beat her? Katchina sprang out of my desire to write a Victims Revenge tale.
When Im Calling You by Donna Russo Morin. We’ve all had them...those bosses who truly believe they are our superiors...those people who ride the crest of our hard work all the way up the corporate ladder. While working for one such person, an employee who worked for me passed away. When her father called her in dead and the frustration of my situation grew egregious, the concept of this story was born. Perhaps it was just my way of releasing my tension...or perhaps it is a warning to all those head honchos who step on a few too many little people on the way up.
Knock Em Dead Kid by Josh Rountree. The story grew out of my love for rock and roll. Punk, arena rock, grunge, power pop - you name it, I love it. But in my teens the whole world revolved around Heavy Metal, and I found myself wanting to revisit those times. This story is about the way guilt can follow us through the years. And no matter how well we hide, it always catches up with us in the end.
Harvest Girl by Mark Felps. In 1992, the band Shriekback asked a simple question -- Whatever happened to the local gods? This is Marks answer.
